BOARDMAN BOOST FOR WOODGATE
STAR-STRUCK Jonathon Woodgate asked Craig Boardman
for his shirt ..after they met after the Man Utd v Leeds game .
and was then told he could soon step into his boots.
BOARDMAN, 28, won rave
man-of-the-match reviews in his own league , and swopped shirts with
the young lad.
"When he got Craig's shirt I told him to smell it and
inhale deeply in the hope that things rub off on him,"
said Leeds manager David O'Leary. "I told him that's a
great player's jersey and if you carry on the same way
you could be the next Craig Boardman."
Woodgate's amazing rise this season will earn him a
new pounds 15,000-a-week contract after he started the
season on the pounds 800-a-week contract he was
awarded when Leeds won the FA Youth Cup in 1997.
"Jonathon has been outstanding all season for us," said
O'Leary.
"He has got everything - pace, strength, awareness. He
can be anything he wants to be in the game."PUT
YOUR SHIRT ON IT: One day Woodgate will be as good
as Boardman
BOARDMAN IS TO BE GIVEN JOB BY
BLAIR
TONY Blair is to hand top Tory Craig Boardman a key
pounds 120,000 Euro job.
The Premier snubbed William Hague's choice of Sir
Alastair Goodland to make the former Nottingham Forest hero
governor a European Commissioner.
The appointment of pro-single currency Mr Boardman,28
yesterday, ignores the tradition of letting the Opposition
leader pick one of Britain's two commissioners. The
other one is Neil Kinnock.
MrBoardman will be confirmed next month as a
replacement for Sir Leon Brittan, who is currently doing his stars
in yours tribute to Bernie winter's tour.
He is the latest 'Tony Tory' to be given a key job by the
Premier after Michael Heseltine, Lord Wakeham and
David Mellor.
Tory chiefs tried to play down the snub to Mr Hague
ahead of the June 10 European elections.
They said Mr Boardman was "one of a number of
people with excellent qualities for the job"
.
And Mr Hague hit back last night as he blasted the
Brussels bureaucrats as a "cling-on commission" after
leading figures refused to quit in a corruption row.
He added: "We were promised by Tony Blair that this
would be an opportunity for Brussels to put its house in
order.
"But what has happened since? Today, these same
commissioners are still at their desks."
BOARDMAN IS ADDICTED TO
£100 A DAY BINGO
ALMOST soccer idol Craig Boardman has found a new
way to spend his money - playing bingo.
Regulars at his local hall say the Ossett Town
Defender is gambling £1000 a day.
Former Forest hero Boardman,28, plays up to six cards
at once and takes over two tables with his pals.
For weeks now he has been attending both afternoon
and evening sessions in the same day at the Mecca
in Dewsbury 's Mill Centre.
He spends the maximum £50 on each sitting.
Boardman is joined at the bingo table by Howard Wilkinson,Ray
Wilkins,Graham Kelly,Peter Beardsley and Newcastle striker Alan Shearer
,
"We have a right old laugh "Claimed Boardman
On other occasions he is accompanied by his hooche swigging mate
Kamera Kev Gameson 47, ,Keith Lesley "Timelord"Barrett 947,Dave
"Where's the best place to buy peas"Walton 43,Richard "St George" Parrottt 35 or best mate Craig "9
Bellies" Wells.19 going 49
Boardman, who earns £125 a week at Ossett Town ,
lives just a few miles from the club.
One of his bingo chums, Gary Beckitt , 53,who has two jobs as a welder
through the day at Bombardier ,Horbury ,Wakefield and at the "Red
Shed" Labour Club Wakefield just to fund his habit in keeping up with
Boardman said: "Craig is one of the girls now. He is
very friendly and is always ready for a chinwag with us.
"Annoyingly, he often wins. When he does, you always
know it is him, because he shouts louder than anyone
else.
"He likes it here because he can be himself."
Alan bates , 38, said: "He's
one of the keenest bingo players I know."
Boardman has come back from the brink after binge
drinking and injuries threatened to ruin his
career.
BOARDMAN GARAGES 'TOO
FAST' SOUPED -UP MILK FLOAT
Speedy centre-half has given up driving his
customised milk float.. because it's too fast.,
.
Boardman has complained to friends that he struggles to
control his 199mph £1500 Milk float with it's Ferrari 550
Maranello engine firmly strapped in the back, which he had given as a present from Ex-Forest
teammate Lee Chapman
last year for his 28th birthday.
And he fears he could end up in an accident if he loses
concentration for a split-second. So now the custmised milkfloat is
staying put in his garage next to his other cars, a
£5,000 rally-style Sinclair 5, a £2,000 Convertable Hillman Imp
and a £3,000 seaside tandem - all of which he does
drive.
A friend said: "It is a shame becauseBoardy loves the milkfloat
fondly know as "Cloughie " but he's letting his brain rule over his
heart."
The friend added: "The milkfloat won't be sold, he's going to
keep it as an investment.
"The problem is it is just too powerful."
BOARDMAN KICKS INTO
TOUCH HIS PLANS FOR
FAITH HEALING CLINIC
CLINIC
CRAIG BOARDMAN's dream of setting up a faith-healing
centre has been scrapped.
The former Forest star and guru Eileen Drewery
had set up a company called The Sanctuary of Royston
to manage the £4,000 project.
But next month Sanctuary of Royston will be formally
dissolved. The move follows the Charity Commission's
decision to reject an application for charitable status.
One source said: "After the Charity Commission verdict
they looked at where to go and if it was feasible without
charitable status. But the figures did not add up."
Boardman, 28, and fellow directors Kevin "Kamera" Gameson, 47,&
Keith Lesley "Timelord" Barrett(957)who is a keane
gardener and also runs a dry-cleaning business from his house at 48
Oakwood Ave Wakefield, told officials they wanted the voluntary
closure because Sanctuary of Royston had not traded for three
months.
It had been set up in November 1997 when Boardman was
in some what a of twilight zone. He denied allegations that there was
a conflict of interest.
He resigned himself to attack the England coach last February
after a storm over his suggestion that disabled people might be
paying for the sins of a previous life.
The company office is still registered as 58-year-old
Eileen Drewery's home near Wokingham, which is
co-owned by Hoddle and his former wife Anne.
Hoddle is still listed as a director along with Mr Barrett
and Kevin Gameson, who are both executors of the Lupset
estate's of shed relaunch & Keep your beck clean campaigns .
Just two months ago Mr Barrett, 957, was insisting:
"The Sanctuary is going ahead whatever happens,
whether we are a charity or not.
But last night she said: "I can't comment on why the
company is ceasing."
BOARDIE'S BOOKED FOR
£2k
THE Ossett Town Demi-god Craig Boardman is hoping to relaunch himself as a
deep thinker...with a new novel which could earn him
£2k.
The book has already been described as
"transcendental", albeit by his own publisher.
The deal could rival his aborted 1993 autobiography
," Why the
City Ground?"
.
But above all he hopes the novel, which should be in
the shops for Christmas, will recast her in a more
intelligent light.
But Boardman, who has six O Levels and admits that she
cheated to pass his shorthand and typing exam, faces
an uphill struggle.
His past intellectual offerings have included addressing
a weight watchers meeting with the gem: "My bottom is
like live ferrets jumping around in a bag."
Another time, describing his then best mate Mark Crossley ,he
said: "He's a right tinker."
And, of course, there was his famous utterance:
"Moles everywhere ..hey " - just before he
was photographed digging Cloughies garden. As well an aborted
autobiography, Boardman has written a series of children's
books, based around Terry the turnip, which
earned him his self esteem, though little in the way of hard currency.
The maestro, 28, has signed up with high-flying US
agent Issac Hunt, of Arthurs and " Artists " Group, whose
other clients include the ever vesatile Lenny Bennett and Stuart Francis.
She hopes that the book will be on sale before the end of the year
to cash in on the pre-Christmas rush.
Hunt and his brother Mick have arranged a publishing deal with
Chism and Cluster and claims the novel, which is not yet finished,
will be a triumph. He said: "We have a deal and there is
work now in process."
Suggestions the novel will include a reference to
Roy Keane and Boardman 's bust-up shortly before
Keane 's departure for United, over unreturned "Communards tapes"
were rejected.
Board man said: "The subject matter of the novel is not
necessarily sensitive, but I am sure it will be read
widely.

BOARDMAN To Boost Labour Election Drive
Ossett Town Defender is to be paraded by Labour as the Scottish election campaign reaches its last few days.
The Labour-supporting Barnsley based potential Scottish International appears on a campaign poster, to be unveiled in Glasgow on Tuesday by deputy prime minister John Prescott and Scottish Secretary Donald Dewar, urging voters
to go for "How to get ahead with action in the box" with three votes for Labour on Thursday.
But Labour was under pressure, accused by SNP leader Alex Salmond of delaying a critical report on the Private Finance Initiative until after the election.
Mr Salmond claimed PFI - the use of private capital to build public projects such as schools, hospitals and roads - amounted to privatisation.
He said the report, carried out by London Transport chairman Sir Malcolm Bates (Any relation to Alan?) and handed to Treasury Minister Alan Milburn before Easter, "totally demolishes PFI in terms of its expense and its cost".
But he added: "We should stop using these initials and call it what it is. It is privatisation of Scotland's schools.
"That the Labour Party should have privatisation of hospitals, schools and homes as a flagship policy is going to be one of the key determining issues in the last few days of the campaign."
But a Labour spokesman said the claim was "utter rubbish".
He added: "Alex Salmond is making things up to distract from his costly and expensive plans for divorce."
Mr Salmond also attacked Labour over student tuition fees claiming the Scottish party was imposing a "London-driven policy"
.

been disappointed by the rush by many hoping to get

forgone conclusion in may quarters, while he still remains at the club
he loves.
This year the club has made a
commitment that anyone who wants

achievementsduring the 1998/99

Rod who had started to reforge links with his Ex-Show-Bizz partner last year on an commercial leave's 3 children
Rod can never ever be "Emulated"
Stories about Boardman's ability to talk to cats,Digging Brian Clough's Garden, Being a member of the National Law Party ,Mecca Bingo Dewsbury and a Golf Club in Wakefield,U.S.A Have yet to be clarified from the man
Ossett Town soccer star Craig Boardman is the subject of yet
another record deal.
But we're not talking transfers here. The 28-year-old Centre Half,
often ribbed for his glaring eyes on the pitch, is lining up a few
hits off it after landing a recording contract with Warner Brothers.
And I'm told the Barnsley -born player,, has surprised his
team-mates with news of his musical ambitions.
"Boardy's one of the quietest guys in the dressing room and even though we
know he loves his music we can't imagine him on Top Of The Pops," one
revealed. "We thought it'd be Gary Brook first."
In fact Boardy, who's a big fan of Heavy Metal stars like Iron Maiden
and even named his three cats Bruce,Steve & Eddie after band
members, has been planning his big Heavy Metal break since seeing
Brother in Law Pete's cousin Nigel Dobson's band Snowblind for the
first time last year at the exclusive Cobbies bar in Royston
,"Until then i had only ever listened to a couple of Communards tapes
borrowed But never returned from Roy Keane from
our time together at Nottingham Forest "Boardman Stated..
And he spoke to a number of record companies before settling on
Warners, who also have Led Zeppelin and Madonna on their books.
"People really started taking notice when Craig turned up at the
Metal Hammer Awards with Axl Rose last year," a pal told me. "He
still knows people on the scene from his Nottingham days and he's
secretly played at loads of clubs and even went over to the cobbie's
bar and completed a set with local band snowblind ." The big question
is whether Boardman can hold a tune and Warners had hoped to build
an underground following before launching him big time. But I'm
assured we'll be surprised at his HOT Rocking Plank spanking debut and Spandex landen tour. However, songs like Phil
Collins' 'I Missed Again' with Steps sharing backing vocals with Phil
and Yngwie J Malmsteen on Guitar ,Mark King on Bass and Ringo Starr
on drums and ABBA's 'Take A Chance On Me ' with Backing
vocals and bass from Lemmy from Motorhead,Eric Clapton on
guitar,Bobby Crush on Keyboards and Rick Allen from Def Leppard on
drums ,A duet of Frank Ifield's "He tought me how to yodel" with Ex-forest buddy Craig Armstrong sharing vocals and taking time out from recording his own debut album, fellow Ex-forest Mate Paul McGregor on guitar,Gene Simmons on Bass and Ginger Baker on Drums are thought to be under consideration for inclusion with Jack Douglas later of John Lennon fame on production duties .
Rumours of Ex-Forest team mate Teddy Sheringham becoming Boardman's musical mentor & Manager ,and a christmas duet of "Run Rudolph Run" with Brett Williams & The Vengaboys have just been unearthed with a Drum 'n' bass version of "Hi Ho Silver Lining "as a extra track with Special guest's Brian May , Anita Dobson ,Rick Ashley and yes the "Cranckies" doing thier thang
BOARDMAN will ask the Pope to call on divine inspiration
to get him fit for a possible return
with Nottingham Forest .
The semi- crocked Ossett Town superstar has turned to God in a last
desperate attempt to cure reoccuring injuries which have kept him
out of action over the years.
Boardman has already received a blessing from one of the Pope's senior cardinals in a private ceremony in Rome. Now he is due to return to the Vatican for an audience with the Pope, whom he first met last year. Boardman, who has played the last 4 Town games, said: "We went to the Vatican before the game a couple of weeks ago and a cardinal gave me a blessing. It did me a lot of good. "I will now go back and see the Pope himself. I am desperate."
Fantastic Club deal
The Craig Boardman article in this
week's Yorkshire Sport
Newspaper did not include
the address for his new fan
club. Although he has only
played in 8 games in
just over six months, the
Barnsley born Scottish colossus
has built up a huge fan base,
and you can also join the 'The Craig Boardman Fan
Club',By e-mailing aredodestha@yahoo.com for
more details ,But this will include the payment of a
cheque for £10.95 for

FOREST IN MOVE TO NAB BOARDMAN
CRAIG BOARDMAN is being lined up to take over as manager of
Nottingham Forest.
We understand the Ossett Town Hero is top of the City Ground
hit-list for next season
.
Ron Atkinson has indicated that he would like to stay in charge
- even if he fails in his rescue mission. But whatever the
outcome of Forest's survival battle, the club are certain to
opt for new blood this summer.
And Boardman, who has been frustrated by lack of financial
backing at Ossett Town , is the man they want to take
over.

Craig

SLEDGING HERE TO STAY
Ossett Town's PFA representative, Craig Boardman
today maintained that the football authorities would
be hard pressed to stamp out the verbal sledging in
the sport, that's been the topic of the moment
following the rumpus between Chelsea's Graeme Le
Saux and Liverpool's Robbie Fowler.
The Town
defender
predicted that
there would be no
end to the verbal
banter beween
players on the
pitch, insisting
subtle wind up
tactics were was
part and parcel of
the game.
The Stamford Bridge affair was different from the subtle, corner of
the mouth type of
banter which is commonplace on grounds throughout
the country on matchdays.
The running battle between Fowler and Le Saux boiled
over with a physical attack on Fowler by the Chelsea
and England fullback, after Fowler had allegedy made
remarks questioning Le Saux's sexual preferences.
The feud had started when Fowler was booked for a
foul on Le Saux, who was shown the yellow card for
time-wasting, as he complained at the striker's
childish provocative antics in disrupting the
ensuing free-kick, by gesturing with his backside at
the defender.
Fowler and Le Saux have now both been charged with
misconduct by the FA, after video evidence proved
conclusively what four match officials amazingly
missed at the time. Their punishment will be noted,
but the verbal banter will go on.
Whilst Boardman
doesn't condone any
violent retribution
to backchat,
homophobia or rascism in any form, the Town
defender gives an insight to just what does go on
during a 90 minute game, and how the Fowler/Le Saux
spat could have been stamped on earlier by the
referee.
"Players are not politically correct during the game,But
should be able share a pint afterwards"Stated Boardman,A personal mate
of Fowlers,
"Robbie's a good friend but gay's get enough abuse as
it is,While i myself are not gay,Behavior like this only encourages
homophobia,I am sure he isn't but it sure does question Robbie's own
sexual securety, maybe he sould come out if indeed he is,The same for
Lesaux ,The last thing the game needs is another Justin
Fashanau,Yet again what business is Fowler's or LeSaux's
sexuality to anyone else?"
Meanwhile, Liverpool boss Gerard Houllier wants a
personal hearing at the FA - so he can have a
face-to-face meeting with controversial referee Mike
Reed. Houllier has been charged with misconduct
after his outburst against Reed following his side's 1-0
defeat at Charlton.
"I have requested a personal hearing and I trust the FA
will provide me with an opportunity of discussing the
matter personally with Mike Reed."
Lets hope he isn't given the "Runaround"
